On Saturday we woke up to heavy gray clouds, and once it started to pour I bundled up in my wool sweater, which I purchased in Ireland on our honeymoon (wearing it always, always, always makes me smile) and was inspired to try my hand at making apple cider from scratch. Everything went well until the tail end of part one, which is when I had to make a dash to the store for a few ingredients for zucchini bread (what can I say? I got REALLY inspired!) and left Big C in charge of the house. Unfortunately I forgot to tell him to keep an eye on the boiling pot of cider and when I walked back into the house I could hardly see, it was so smokey! My husband said it JUST happened so disaster was averted by opening all the windows and doors and, of course, dealing with the smoking pot. Within 30 minutes everything was back to normal and the cider-making resumed.
I borrowed this recipe from Free People blog, which you can see here! In the afternoon the clouds parted and we had a beautiful blue sky to enjoy. Big and Little C went for a stroll to our friends’ house a few blocks away, and I followed them about 30 minutes later with a loaf of zucchini bread. These simple autumn days are rare, so I try and cherish each moment!
On Sunday we packed up Little C and drove into the city for a friend of mine’s son’s 1st birthday party. It was a beautiful drive, sunny and the landscape is so beautiful this time of year. We arrived in the city early so decided to do some grocery shopping (there are just some things you can’t get in the country!) and bought Little C a new fall jacket. It’s too cute, a little bomber jacket and it even has a ‘C’ on it! The party was fun, we arrived at 3pm and there was another baby and a toddler for Little C to play with. We left a little early and met my mother-and-step-father-in-law for supper at a nearby restaurant. By then the baby had had enough and was getting pretty grumpy. But we powered through and had a lovely meal. After grabbing a coffee we hit the road and arrived home around 9:30pm.
All in all it was a lovely weekend 🙂
See you next time, xoxo.
